About Johan Peijnenburg
I am a Dutchman and have been living in the Swiss Alps since the end of 2008. For those who know Switzerland a bit, or just like cheese, I am located in the Gruyère region. I have an academic business economics background and worked as an entrepreneur, project manager, and designer of business software and web applications for many years. In 2007 however, I decided that it was time for new challenges and to give my creative side more room to play. As a result NiO Photography was born.
My primary focus is on photographing landscapes and nature, both in color and black & white. Just showing spaces and capturing the presence of nature is not enough for me though. My images are never about just documenting a specific location. They are more about the mood, feeling or a special moment. Something needs to be happening.
Nature tells a different story every hour of every day. Nothing beats being out there to watch that story evolve and to hopefully capture a moment in a way that grabs your attention, is emotive and makes you want to look longer. I truly believe that crafting a good landscape image is an art, which takes time to master!
The image galleries showcased on this site contain fine art landscape and nature images captured in Switzerland, as well as in locations like the Canadian Rockies, the Italian Dolomites, the French Alps, the Atlantic coast in Ireland, the North Sea coast in The Netherlands, the Fjords in Lofoten Norway, Greenland and Iceland. Yes, I like to travel 🙂
The images cover a variety of subjects, like mountains, alpine lakes and rivers, glaciers as well as seas and oceans. All images can be purchased as a print or licensed for personal use or commercial use.

What’s in the bag?
Err … that depends a bit on how long and steep the hike will be … I’ll typically take only one body and three to five lenses along when I go out shooting, together with a tripod, many filters and various other bits and pieces … including my Swiss army knife obviously …
