It was the start of winter in the Alps when this moody snow landscape photograph was taken. The water of the small mountain river was still flowing and finding its way down from the Swiss Alps in the back. Fog is rising, and the sun manages to warm the landscape a bit. It was close to the end of the day. As a result, the light is nicely soft. The mountain river leads the eye precisely to the patch of sunlight as well as the mountains in the back.
The view as shown in this winter landscape photograph, titled “Cold River”, is a view from a higher altitude close to the Albula pass road in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The name of the more dominant mountain in the back is Piz Üertsch and has an elevation of 3,268 metres (10,722 ft). The Albula pass road offers gorgeous views and many excellent landscape photography opportunities. Make sure to visit if you get the chance!
