This fine art mountain landscape photograph features the Matterhorn in winter. The Matterhorn is 4,478 metres (14,692 ft) high and that makes it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe. It is situated on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Its Italian name is Cervino.

The view of the Matterhorn in winter captured in this landscape photograph is along a winter hiking trail downwards from the Gornergrat in Zermatt, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It was the middle of winter, and a lot of fresh snow fell during the days before. The air was very crispy and clean as a result. An old snow trail almost filled up with the new snow. It is still visible though and leads the eye towards the Matterhorn in the background. The sky is full of soft clouds, which makes the Matterhorn stand out nicely. Undoubtedly the black & white presentation helps with that as well.
