Forgot about this one and just ran into it again. Couldn’t resist posting this Swiss cow portrait π
Things seem to be much further away when you’re looking through a wide-angle lens. I forgot about that for a second and this Swiss lady cow came in a little bit closer than expected … and she actually kissed the lens! The lens I was using was my Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 which happens to have an enormous, bulbous front element. So, plenty of glass to clean.
A cow really close
Close up of a brown and white coloured cow ... through the lens it looked a lot further away then it actually was.I used a large aperture for this portrait of a Swiss cow and focussed on the nose to only get that sharp. Hope you like this one as well!
Cheers, Johan π

lol Jean Michel π
Thanks Franka and Cheryl! She’s cute isn’t she π
Great capture. I always wanted to take a wide angle, close up, cow photograph, however, I don’t think I could handle the moment. I like the focus on the nose. The bell gives it a signature European look (Californian cows don’t have bells).
She is beautiful I love her bell and that look she is giving you!
great shot
Thanks Andre π
Charmante !
Thank you very much Denis.
is funy
Thank you Adji !
Nice effect – Like it a lot:)
Thanks again Joel !
Very cool shot Johan – looks like the happy Milka Cow
Thanks Rolf. She does indeed. Thanks for visiting!
What a sweet portrait! π
It is isn’t it! Merci GΓ©rald π
@Kimberly: thank you!
@Robert: thank you as well Robert. I have a dog and I am always careful with him around cows, cause you never know π
@Jo: I think so. She was a bit grumpy π
Johan, you do know it’s illegal to live in Switzerland, own a camera, and not take at least one shot like this. Very cool. Cows, when not being timid, can be very curious.
Real Swiss wildlife π Thanks Charles
Very tasty close up!! π Great work!
Thank you so much Nikola !
very cool, such curious creatures – looks like you disturbed lunch
But I think the effort was worth it. Very impressive photo! π
Especially fun it can be if you have a dog with you. If the cow has a calf, one must be able to run fast. Because they can be very aggressive. We in Austria have always accidents among people with dogs when they cross the meadows.
I love this!
So funny and lovable part of nature! Lovely Johan
Indeed and thank you Myrna π
Cows are curious beings. I had similar encounter once. π
Indeed Filip π
Nice!
Thank you Tracey !
P. Laug, Lana, Lilyana, Khrystiane, Darren and John: thanks for the nice comments π
You just can’t beat the perfect combo that is UWA Lens and Animals π
Awesome POV……the in your face perspective works wonders here!!!
Bwahahaha so funny. Nice close up Johan
super cute!
So nice π
Thank you Saradi !
Haha great shot and the story made me smile! π Well done, Johan!
Ist die aber neugierig.
Tolles Photo.
Excellent! Love the curious cow. (In general, and this one in particular.)
@Tom Tran: thanks! Yes, the discussion was a bit more lively then expected π
Hahah…this is good, Johan. And apparently a good discussion topic as well. π
Love it!!
Thanks Rebecca !
ribeye? sirloin? filet mignon? I’d like my kiss medium well please. π
Mwah!
You can do a workshop with cows now that you have a wide-angle yourself Athena π
Actually Johan, you haven’t been around me with cows yet, but the truth is that I like to pet them. π (ok, and eat them, but not at the same time) I am a bit gushy over most animals. π You will see in time.
maybe we’ll run into a few tomorrow and I will post wide-angle shots of you cutling with cows tomorrow night π
lol – I guess that is ok +Johan Peijnenburg as long as I don’t have my ND filters tucked into the back of my jeans again… π
Lol, with some jeans that might be better Athena.
Thanks Julia and Kerry!
Christophe: smiling cows are a rare species. I only tend to find them in the fridge of the grocery store π
I love her. π
ok…….kiss π
La vache qui rit! π Pas vraiment but still… Love this Johan! π
she wasn’t really smiling no. Some stars play hard to get π
I could tell Johan but it made me think of it! π
This is great! Now that’s what I call a schnozzola!
Ivan: I can’t seem to find that word in my dictionary … π
That’s because you are using the Peijnenburgdicjionury!
(just kiddin!)
I guess so Ivan π I do like the word “schnozzola” a lot, but somehow I think I should not say to my wife that she has a nice “schnozzola” π
Why not? Buy her some flowers, put on some soft music and tell her how much you love her nice schnozzola. (Make sure the kid’s are in bed sleeping first) ;-P
Ok, I will give that a try! Should I wear a boxing helmet and something to protect my teeth?
Yes, and be sure to wear a cup to.
I am thinking she was thinking she found someone that looked as good as her and couldn’t help herself but to a kiss π Absolutely FANTASTIC shot Johan
Thanks Elisha. My guess is that she liked the smell of my after-shave. I don’t look as good as her π
Well I was actually saying she saw her reflection haha, But it works!
You should really put a smily after a comment like that Elisha. I am a sensitive and insecure guy, so I might not be able to fall asleep because of a “I look like a cow” trauma π
lol You don’t look like a cow haha π I am sorry if I offended you. I was just saying she was attracted to her reflection in the lens. Much <3 sent to you Johan
Lol Elisha π No worries, I was just kidding you π
Laurent: Thanks! She was playing hard to get π She’ll probably get worse when she finds out that she has been commented on so many times;-)
Thanks Nick !
don’t tell her , I’m sure she’s not on internet so she won’t know π
Yes shhh Laurent. Sound advise!
Thanks Sandra π
@Robin Griggs Wood: splendid idea π The model did all the work in this case!
Love it!
hahaha that’s a really cool shot Johan! The cow doesn’t seem to share you enthusiasm though π
You might need a little message on your lens — “*Warning cows are closer than they appear*!” … ;oD
I love cows and this one is particularly cute shot this way, Johan … I love the inquisitive appearance you captured. … :o)
Oh I love this Johan!! It’s perfect!!!
A great whatever picture. I too, live through the wide angle.
Thanks! Gotta get the hang of it, but the results can be quite amazing!
Thanks Johan and Piet π
My favourite type of lenses Beverley. Thanks for the comment!
I have the Sigma 10-20 and just love the lens..
that’s a nice focal range as well. Using it on full frame?
Wonderful what a wide angle lens can produce – love it..:)
:-))
Lovely perspective Johan
smiling.. just wants to give you some loving.. cute capture
Thanks Livi and Kevin π
@Adam: looking forward to your wide-angle goodness!
@Hope: I have a way with women of this caliber π
Wide angle goodness? Looks like some of the close up wide angle shots I have taken.
Cows are cool. Great shot, Johan!
I adore this image! Great story to it too!
Thank you Cicely π
Danke Dirk!
Ich finde solche Bilder immer wieder klasse !
Thanks Mark and Richard!
What a lovely kisser…. π Great shot +Johan Peijnenburg!
Lovely shot Johan
Ha nice one!
Michael: me too. The f/3.3 helps as well π
Dene’: it’s a real lady π
Love this guy!
Hah, very nice one. I always adore this angle for our bovine friends! ;-)))
ΠΠ΄ΠΎΡΠΎΠ²ΠΎ!!!
thanks !?
Nicely taken.
Thanks Catu !
Cleaning the lens…ok. But the sensor…? Hmmm.
only if the wife only let’s you replace the camera once it no longer works π
Yes +Johan Peijnenburg . Only problem is that the wife will not pay for it. π
and even then she has a say π Life is so cruel π
Lovely shot. I used to work with cattle, they are incredibly curious.
yeah they are. Apparently you have to be careful as well. They can come charging …
Really like the detail on the nose there!
Lol thanks Matt π I could do a quiz now … how many hairs
Really good shot.
Thanks Shawn, Yasmin and Alexandre π
@Chrysta: she made my heart go faster for a few seconds as well π
she’s pretty cute. It’s the eyelashes.
Indeed Chrysta. The parfume she was wearing helped as well π
perfume. I always forget perfume. cows win every time.
Lol Chrysta. Somehow I don’t believe that!
omg i love her.
Hah! This is absolutely fantastic, Johan. Love it…
π cute…
i love it
Tnx Royce π
I love the humor in this!
