Disko Bay is a bay on the western coast of Greenland and is full of giant icebergs and chunks of ice. As a result, the Arctic scenery there is just stunning and unique. The icebergs of Disko Bay pass out of the Ilulissat Icefjord. The Icefjord runs west 40 km (25 mi) from the Greenland ice sheet to Disko Bay just south of Ilulissat town. At the eastern end of the Ilulissat Icefjord is the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. It is one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap reaches the open sea. It also is the most productive glacier in the Northern Hemisphere.
This photograph in B&W was captured from a small boat. It was close to sunset. As a result, the soft sunset light selectively brightens parts of the icebergs in this coastal landscape. The dark clouds above the icebergs add some mood to the photograph.
The Unesco declared Ilulissat Icefjord a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. And righteously so!
Please visit our The Arctic theme for more photographs from the Arctic including some more featuring the icebergs of Disko Bay. Alternatively, visit the Nordic Landscape Photography collection for more photos from the Nordics in general.

Purdy looking icebergs man, and I like the sense of scale they always manage to produce. A place where people can get to feel like dwarfs amongst titans :)
