A new lake landscape: Tranquil dawn at Lake Sanetsch

In 2008, I moved to the Alps to make a childhood dream come true. The Alps have always made me smile, and now they do every single day … and especially mountain scenery like this. When photographing this sunrise at Lake Sanetsch last week, it really made me think how lucky I was to be able to relocate to the Alps. The following saying came to mind as well, though:

Depend on the rabbit’s foot if you will, but remember it didn’t work for the rabbit! ~ R.E. Shay

Tranquil dawn

Sunrise at Lac de Sanetsch with the Sanetschhorn mountain in the background.

Lake Sanetsch is an alpine mountain lake located in the mountains near Gsteig, Switzerland, just on the border between the cantons of Bern and Valais. The lake is situated at an altitude of 2,034 metres (6,673 feet) and can be reached by cable car. This photograph was taken at around 8:30 am. In the background, you see the sunrise warming up the Sanetschhorn (2,924m/9,593ft).

I shot this mountain lake landscape with my 24-70 f/2.8 lens. I used a Singh-Ray graduated neutral density filter to control the brightness of the sunrise a bit.

Gorgeous image Johan, the play of light across the landscape… the mirror quality to the lake… all adds up to a winning image.

Johan, just magnificent. I have some I really like but the way I took them (portrait) didn’t work out very well, as part of a panorama. Waves have to be choppy enough to hide movement of it has to be perfectly still. My images have enough wave movement that stitching them isn’t going to be easy. While I have some beautiful images, none will come close to this without a lot of work. Bravo.

I guess I’ll have to go back. 🙂

    • Johan Peijnenburg says:

thanks for the compliment 🙂 Hope you will still give the stitching a try! Going back sounds like a plan … early spring might be cool as well.
