This Arctic coastal landscape shown in this photograph is in the Ilulissat Icefjord in the west of Greenland. The Ilulissat Icefjord is full of giant icebergs like this one. They try to find their way to Disko Bay and then onwards to the North Atlantic Ocean. At its east is the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. This is one of the most productive calving glaciers in the world. The Icefjord runs west for 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the ice sheet of Greenland to Disko Bay just south of the small town of Ilulissat.
It was sunset and soft evening light warmed the iceberg sideways. Warm sunset colours started to appear in the sky, and the low sun makes the water very dark blue. The big iceberg stands out as a result. The sky is quite moody, which add to that. The fresh coat of snow on the iceberg is a nice bonus. It was very, very cold on the boat from which this Arctic coastal landscape was photographed. Hence the title “Frosty Sunset”.

The freezing cold of the Arctic. That is quite a large iceberg floating close to the coast! Beautiful Johan 😀
