This coastal landscape photograph in black and white features a bald eagle flying over a relatively calm North Pacific Ocean. It flies towards one of the small islands of the Broken Group archipelago in Barkley Sound on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The islands of the Broken Group archipelago Unit are part of the beautiful Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a bird of prey. They live near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for nesting. For that reason, plenty of them also hang out at the Canada’s Pacific Coast near Vancouver Island.

This bald eagle was flying over the ocean to fish for salmon on a foggy September day. The misty mood created the ideal atmosphere for a black and white take on this Canadian landscape scene. The photo was taken from a boat near Ucluelet, a small municipality on the Ucluelet Peninsula south of Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island is a great place to go to if you visit Canada’s Pacific Coast. It is very peaceful and offers beautiful beaches and coastal forests. Additionally, it is home to the Pacific Rim National Park as well as British Columbia’s first Provincial Park, Strathcona. Unsurprisingly, Vancouver Island is also a great place to hike and camp.

Now that’s a different view on a bald eagle in flight! And for some reason the white tale seems to make all the difference. I wouldn’t mind having this on my wall Johan 🙂
