Flower photographs are not only beautiful in colour. Hopefully, this close-up photograph of the fruits of a dandelion flower proves that. A shallow depth of field makes the dandelion fruits fade out against the dark background. The photo has a lovely dreamy look and a silky feel as a result. Also, it strengthens the silky soft character of the fruits. The title “Silky Soft” seemed quite suitable for this fine art flower photograph in black & white.
An alternative name of the dandelion flower is taraxacum. It is a very common yellow spring flower. The head of the flower matures into spherical seed heads, sometimes called blowballs or clocks, consisting of many single-seeded dandelion fruits called achenes. Each achene is attached to a pappus of fine hair-like material. This enables dispersal over long distances, aided by the wind.
