This photo of a misty forest in black & white was taken in the Italian Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso. This is a national park located in the Alps, between the Aosta Valley and Piedmont regions in the Northwestern part of Italy. Italy created the park in 1922 to protect the Alpine ibex from extinction. The creation was a success, as may Alpine ibex now graze the abundant mountain pastures in summer.

Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso is also well-known for its larch tree woods, mixed with spruces, Swiss stone pines, and more sometimes silver firs. As a result, the park is a great destination for both landscape and wildlife photographers. The larch trees gradually turn yellow and the Alpine ibex descend to lower elevations at the end of autumn when it gets colder.

Furthermore the park is a great place for hiking. The park is easy to access and there a many well-marked trails. Additionally, the Alpine scenery is still fairly untouched. Make sure to visit when you are in the region!

It was close to sunset on a day that gradually turned foggy and rather moody. The sunset softly illuminated the trees sideways. As a result, a delightful contrast between the fog and the larch trees appeared. The black & white treatment enhances the minimalist mood and zen feel of this photo of a misty larch tree forest.
