The Landmannalaugar region is part of the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland. It lies at the edge of the Laugahraun lava field and is well-known for its natural geothermal hot springs and surrounding mountain landscape. Most of the mountains of Landmannalaugar have quite a unique shape and texture, partly because of the lack of trees there.
In reality, the two mountains in this landscape photograph have an intense green colour with black lines carved out by water running down from them. The sand in the foreground is black. A great mix of contrasts. Converting the photograph to black & white created an interesting mix of grey tones, as a result. The band of clouds above the mountains adds some extra mood.
If you ever find yourself in Iceland, make sure to visit the mountains of Landmannalaugar. The Landmannalaugar region is a great place both for hiking and landscape photography. Highly recommended!

The mountains and hills of Landmannalaugar are so different from what you see elsewhere! A very special place. The weather needs to cooperate though 🙂 Love the details and how these mountains stand out against that band of fog!
