This landscape photograph features Lake Sils. Lake Sils, or Silsersee, is a beautiful high alpine mountain lake in the Engadin region in the southeast of Switzerland. The view shown in this photograph is close to Sils im Engadin/Segl, a small town in the Upper Engadine valley. The town and the lake lie at an altitude of 1,797 metres (5,896 ft) above sea level. As a result, the area very often gets autumn snow.
The photograph shows the reflections of a small island, or islet, in the lake. The larch trees on the island are dusted with a bit of snow. They still have their fall colours, despite the cold. Furthermore, you see a mountain called Piz Corvatsch in the background. Piz Corvatsch is the highest mountain in the Bernina Range of the Alps. It has an altitude of 3,451 metres (11,322 ft) and is an excellent location for hiking as well as skiing.
This photograph is part of our Mountains & Hills landscape photography theme. You will find many mountain landscapes there. What a nice view on Piz Corvatsch! You were lucky to be there with snow in October!

Thanks! No luck at all … I went there a couple of years in a row in autumn 🙂 You should try it. It is not too far for you …
