A substantial part of the surface of these mountains, found in the highlands of Iceland, has a vivid green colour. This creates a fascinating contrast with the black lava sand in the foreground. The black & white conversion resulted in a great mix of shades of grey because of that. Furthermore, the difference in texture between the black sand in the foreground, the mountains themselves and the moody sky, adds depth.
The mountains in this landscape photograph are located in the Landmannalaugar region in the Highlands of Iceland. Landmannalaugar is part of the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. The mountains and hills there do not have trees on them. As a result, you can see very well how Mother Nature eroded them over time. There are a lot of interesting shapes, contrasts and textures to play with there. That, in combination with the changing weather, makes for an excellent photography location. Seeing Landmannalaugar is a must whenever you visit Iceland. The landscape there is breathtaking. Besides that, it is a great place to hike as well.

A dark beauty! Love those tiny lines in the mountain side.
