This autumn sunrise at Lej da Staz, or Stazersee in German, was very tranquil and peaceful. Therefore, “Tranquil Sunrise” seemed to be a fitting title for this mountain lake landscape photograph. Lej da Staz is a small lake in the Engadin valley, in Graubünden, Switzerland. The lake lies up a hill close to St. Moritz and is an excellent location for photographing landscapes … and for bathing.
The photograph shows how beautiful the Swiss Alps and lakes in Graubünden are. Graubünden is a canton in the southeast of Switzerland. The larch trees of the forest of Staz (“Stazerwald”) in the background have their fall colours, and the mountains in the back just got a fresh dusting of snow. The sun just started to light the mountain tops when the photograph was taken. As a result, the light was still soft and balanced. The mountains catching first light in the back are Piz Julier and Piz Lagrev.

What a calming and serene view! Is Lej da Staz easy to find?

Thanks Damian! Sorry for the late reply … the lake is very easy to find. Any map of St. Moritz will show you where it is. It is a 3 km hike or so. Make sure to go at sunrise! 🙂
