This fine art landscape in black & white features the mountain Sassolungo in the Dolomites. Sassolungo, or Langkofel in German, is quite striking because of its tall shape. It is the highest mountain of the Langkofel Group in the Dolomites (Southern Limestone Alps) in the province of South Tyrol in Italy. A thick layer of fog and clouds enclose the mountain, which creates a bit of a dramatic mood as a result. Undoubtedly the black & white presentation reinforces that mood.
The Dolomites in Italy are very different from the rest of the Alps. The landscape seems more open, and the mountains stand out from the valleys. Also, their rugged and jagged mountain peaks, as well as their lighter surface, make them quite unique. The Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are a great location for hiking and skiing as well as landscape photography. Make sure to visit when you find yourself in the north of Italy, but try to avoid the summer months!
