This snowy landscape with trees was captured in the Swiss countryside near the town of Fribourg, or Freiburg in German, in western Switzerland. Trees like this are excellent photography subjects, especially on foggy days in wintertime. This specific scene instantly caught the eye because the trees are mostly of a different kind. Besides that, they seem to be on their way to a gathering on the top of the snowy hill. Hence the title “The Gathering” for this photograph of the countryside.

This snowy landscape with trees against a background of fog has a distinctly minimalist look and feel. Undoubtedly, the black and white presentation adds to that. Less is often more! Despite the mist, there still was enough sunlight to warm the hill and create a beautiful play of shadows and light around the trees. The dusting of snow on the trees is a nice bonus because it makes them stand out a bit more.
