I love mountains, lakes and coastal scenery. As a result, a lot of my landscape work features those elements. More variation would be good, however. Therefore, I will focus on capturing the foothills and curvy Swiss countryside more often in the years to come. I am in a black and white mood at the moment. As a result, this new work will likely be in black and white. This photograph of an early morning in the beautiful Swiss countryside is an excellent example of what I want to achieve. I captured this photograph in the autumn of 2011. So, quite a while back. Time flies!
Into the Light, a Swiss countryside landscape at sunriseA swiss countryside landscape at sunrise in black & white, with tracks in a freshly mowed field leading the eye towards the trees on the horizon.
I ran into this scene by accident when I took the long road through the countryside on my way to a photography shoot at Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) with friend photographer Athena Carey. The early morning light at sunrise nicely lights the scene from the side, and the curved lines in the field draw me into the scene. The various shades of grey, lines and structure of the compositional elements come together nicely and as a result, give it depth. I hope you like this photo of an early morning in the Swiss countryside as well!
I used a Nikon D3x and a Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 lens to photograph the scene, with the following settings: 58mm – ƒ/11, 1/60s and ISO100. The light wasn’t very bright yet. As a result, there was no need to use filters to balance the exposure.
