This Dutch coastal landscape in black & white features the lighthouse of Westkapelle at the North Sea coast. Westkapelle is a small town in the western province of Zeeland in The Netherlands. Westkapelle is well-known for its sandy beaches with wooden breakwaters and this lighthouse. As a result, it is an excellent location for coastal landscape photography.
This particular photo was taken close to sunset on a day with cloudy and moody weather. The water of the North Sea was calm. In the foreground, you see a white rock. To the right of it, there is a trail that leads the eye towards the lighthouse. The black & white treatment simplifies the photo a bit. Additionally, it enhances the contrast between the rock in the foreground, the lighthouse of Westkapelle and the sky above the North Sea. “Guiding Light” seemed to be a suitable title for this coastal landscape from the Netherlands.
