This photograph of winter in the Swiss mountains was taken near the Simplon Pass, in the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. The small settlement featured in the photo is snowed in and as a result abandoned in wintertime. Hence the title “Snowed In”.
The photograph was taken from a higher elevation along a winter hiking trail. A lot of fresh snow had fallen on the previous days. As a result, the landscape looks very pristine. Fog rose in the back, and gradually more of the winter mountain scenery became visible. The name of the mountain in the background is Wasenhorn by the way.
The area around the Simplon pass is an excellent place for hiking and landscape photography. This is especially the case in autumn and winter. The setting with high alpine mountain peaks is stunning there. Make sure to visit the area when you get the chance. You will have to bring your snowshoes to reach the best spots for shooting winter in the Swiss mountains!
