This photograph in black & white features Lac de Neuchâtel. The view shown is close to the town of Marin-Epagnier, a small village in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel.
It was a very foggy day. Also, there was barely any wind. All in all, excellent conditions for a more minimalist approach to landscape photography. Lac de Neuchâtel has quite a few worthwhile foreground subjects along its shores. This jetty, with its beacon, is a great example. It comes in from the side diagonally and helps to lead the eye into the misty scene and towards the horizon. In the back, you see the silhouettes of the Swiss Jura mountain range. A longer exposure time smoothened the water of the lake and the clouds in the sky. As a result, the photograph has a more soothing and tranquil look and zen feel. The black & white presentation further strengthens this. The title “Misty Solitude” seemed to fit the scene perfectly.
