This misty winter landscape with trees was captured in the Swiss countryside near the town of Fribourg. Fribourg, or Freiburg in German, lies in the west of Switzerland quite close to where Johan Peijnenburg lives.
Groups of trees like these are worthwhile landscape photography subjects, especially on foggy days in wintertime. The scene in this photograph instantly caught the eye because of the bird sitting on the rightmost tree. The bird seems to be waiting for the sun to break through the thick fog. Hence the title “On Watch” for this countryside winter photograph from Switzerland. The background of fog creates a distinctly minimalist look and feel. Undoubtedly, the black and white presentation adds to that. Less is often more! The dusting of snow on the trees is a nice bonus. The trees stand out better as a result.

Love how the sun comes through the misty sky! The touch of snow on the trees create a nice contrast with the dark branches.

How do you find these scenes? Love it! Still debating about this one vs the square version 🙂
