As you can see, this sunrise with alpenglow on the Swiss Alps was very calm but also quite chilly morning. The sky was clear on this autumn day, and the trees in the forest had hoar frost on them. There was barely any wind. The reflections in the lake of the mountains and trees are close to perfect as a result. “A Chilly Rise” seemed like a fitting title for this Swiss mountain lake landscape.
The lake in this photograph is Lej da Staz or Stazersee in German. It is a mountain lake in the Engadin region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The lake lies up a small hill in a forest close to St. Moritz and is an excellent location for photography. Providing that it is not too cloudy, you will always get a sunrise with alpenglow there. Make sure to visit the region, if you get the chance!
Lej da Staz has several bigger and smaller wooden piers. The one in the photograph is the most characteristic. The mountains in the back are Piz Julier and Piz Lagrev, and the name of the forest is Stazerwald.
Visit our Lakes landscape photography theme for more photographs of lakes, both big and small, including a few more of Lej da Staz. You will find quite a few photos of sunrises with alpenglow there.
