As you can see, this autumn sunrise at Lej da Staz was not only very tranquil and peaceful but also quite cold and very foggy. Therefore, “Misty Dawn” seemed like a fitting title for this mountain lake landscape photograph. Lej da Staz, or Stazersee in German, is a small lake in the Engadin region, in Graubünden, Switzerland. The lake lies up a hill close to St. Moritz and is an excellent location for photographing lake landscapes.
Lej da Staz has various bigger and smaller wooden piers. The one in the photograph is the most characteristic. The Swiss Alps sunbathing in the back are Piz Julier and Piz Lagrev. They just received a dusting of fresh snow. Usually, the wind arrives shortly after sunrise. In this case, however, it didn’t. As a result, the photograph shows perfect reflections of the mountains and the pier. Also, the fog didn’t clear yet, which made for a unique misty setting. This photograph of a sunrise at Lej da Staz illustrates how beautiful the mountain lakes in Graubünden in the southeast of Switzerland are. Make sure to visit the region, if you get the chance!
