This Swiss lake landscape in black & white features an old wooden pier disappearing into the mist above Lac de Neuchâtel. This lake primarily lies in Romandy, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
In spring and autumn, the lake tends to have many foggy days. As a result, it is an excellent location for minimalist lake landscape photography. The presence of various characteristic small harbours with old piers and jetties adds to this.
This photo was taken just after sunrise in February near Estavayer-le-Lac in the Swiss canton of Fribourg. The water of the lake was still very calm and the fog above the lake thick and persistent. The wooden pier seemed to disappear into the mist. As a result, it felt as though it was a pathway into an abyss. Hence the title of this minimalist lake landscape in black & white.

Lastly, have a look at our Minimalist photography theme for other more serene landscape photos. The theme includes other images featuring a wooden pier, although they are not all disappearing into the mist. The photograph titled Tranquillity is a great example and captured more or less at the same location.
