Domburg is a small seaside town on the North Sea coast in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a great place to photograph minimalist Dutch coastal landscapes, because of the many interesting subjects that can be included. This one featuring a breakwater is a great example. The beach at the North Sea coast near Domburg is well-known for these wooden breakwaters. They are have been there for a long time, to keep the beach from eroding.
The breakwater in this photograph is partly submerged. It leads the eye toward a pole that marks its end and a moody dark sky above it. A longer exposure time smoothened the North Sea water as well as the clouds in the sky. As a result, the photograph has a more soothing and zen look and feel. “Breaking Waves” seemed to be a fitting title for this minimalist Dutch coastal landscape photograph.
